Steven Silverstein - Civic Experiment Solo Exhibit

Steven Silverstein's solo art exhibit with selected works from his "Civic Experiment" series opens at Artisseur in Los Angeles, December 2, 2017. The exhibit will be accompanied by a book signing, which includes a forward by art critic Peter Frank.

The abstract photographic works in "Civic Experiment" began as a non-objective exploration of light, colors, shapes and symbols, constructed using an in-camera technique. Later, a theme emerged for Silverstein. Informed by having lived in the major metropolitan cities of Paris, New York and Los Angeles, he has become concerned with the way in which cities and suburbs are constructed, governed and experienced. The unpredictable, crowded or reductive forms of the abstractions, grounded in experimental organization, allows for notions of urban design, infrastructure and spatial distribution, and ultimately are a contemplation of how planning impacts daily lives. "Civic Experiment" was originally slated as a solo exhibit at the Esperson Gallery in the Fall of 2017 but due to the devastation of the city in the wake of Hurricane Harvey, the artist and gallery director made the joint decision to postpone it.
